Guardians Of The Galaxy is a highly anticipated project by Marvel Studios. Not many people including myself had not heard of the Guardians Of The Galaxy and were very curious about how the film would turn out. After its announcement by Kevin Fiege at Comic con last year as part of Phase two people have been waiting for this project to go ahead. All the fans had to go on was some concept art. But now we have a little more.
Above is a promo picture of the Guardians which was released at this years comic con which happened just a few days ago. On the panel which included the cast, the director and Kevin Fiege himself we were informed that shooting has only been going on for a couple of weeks. It is still early days yet and we will not see a trailer anytime soon. Some footage was shown at comic con which must have been shot very recently and put together just for the comic con panel. Usually the world does not get to see the footage shown at comic con but maybe someone secretly filmed it and put it on the internet. Who knows.
Anyway the film had announced casting months before and only a few characters were confirmed to be cast. At the panel it was revealed who was starring as who. The villains have not been confirmed as The Collector played by Benicio Del Toro, Ronan the Accuser played by Lee Pace and Nebula who will be played by Karen Gillan. James Gunn also confirmed that Thanos will appear in the film but no news yet on who has been cast. Gunn also confirmed at the moment Thanos is the only think connecting Guardians Of The Galaxy to the wider Marvel Universe which includes The Avengers.
Other casting which has already been revealed before comic con included. Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer and Michael Rooker as Yondu. Chris Pratt did face criticism for being cast as Star Lord as he was overweight. Many people now will have seen his instagram photos of him looking ripped and could probably five Chris Evans a run for his money. I even thought Chris Pratt was too large for the role and now six months of exercise he fits the role perfectly.
Michael Rooker is playing Yondu who is an original Guardian Of The Galaxy from the 60s comic. The Main five team members for this film are Star Lord, Gamora, Drax The Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon. Maybe Yondu will bring all the characters together or train them to be the new Guardians. We are also expected to have the voice actor for Rocket Raccoon confirmed in the next few weeks. Maybe some more characters will be introduced soon. Although we do not want to risk it becoming to crowded and it is an ensemble movie already.
Many people have criticized the character of Rocket Raccoon saying he was only put in the film so Disney could merchandise the character for children. Well that maybe the case but after reading up on Rocket Raccoon you will know he is not a child friendly character. He is simply an earth raccoon with the mind of a human and is a master tactician and marksman. I am very curious to see how he will be portrayed on screen. The picture above shows him to be a normal sized raccoon but other concept art has shown him differently. A live raccoon was brought onto the set a few weeks ago but this may just be for reference and may not be the star of the movie.
For me this film feels a lot like the Mass Effect video game series which I am a fan of. Many people are just ill informed of Guardians Of The Galaxy so they are not looking forward to it. After watching the panel video on the internet though many fans were so happy about the movie getting made and look forward to seeing it next year. Also we ask will the Guardians ever team up with the Avengers? I am looking forward very much to this film and I hope we get some more information soon about casting and maybe some set photos. Also if this does well I can really see this being a trilogy and then it may expand to The Avengers and include other Marvel superheroes.
