James Bond is one of the most iconic characters to ever be shown on screen. With the release of Skyfall last year we celebrated 50 years of James Bond. The casting of James Bond is always a big deal. Now six actors have officially played James Bond. Daniel Craig the most recent who stared in Skyfall seems game to do a few more Bond films and producers are keen to keep him on.
However in the modern world people are wanting to see a black actor portray James Bond. I think this would be an interesting take on the series although I know for a fact people are outraged at the thought of this which is upsetting. Bond is primarily British. He has always been white but I think a black bond could work as long as the actor is British.
Two black British actors spring to mind for most people when discussing the role of James Bond. Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Despite having rather exotic sounding names both of these actors are British and could fill the role of James Bond.
I am not sure if this will happen for a while yet though. As producers are keen to keep Craig in the role for a while, I can’t see another actor being cast as James Bond for another 10 years. And even other white actors have been named dropped for the role, such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender.
There is also an issue that by the time Craig stops being bond Elba and Ejiofor may be too old for the role. Elba will be 50 and Ejifor will be in his mid 40s. So maybe an unknown younger black actor would be more suited for the role. This is long off yet but people are already talking about this. Another issue arises that would be people accept a black James Bond? Remember people were upset that Daniel Craig was Bond saying a blonde actor can’t play him and he is too short for the role. How would people react to a black actor playing this iconic role.
What do you think? Would you be happy to see James Bond portrayed by a black actor? Do you have any suggestions for any actor who could fill the role when Craig leaves? Please comment below.
